Why does an LG washer OE code appear only after the drain phase times out? Because the board is timing the water level, not watching a part. Below: the drain phase second by second, where each LG platform fails, and each outcome priced, $90 visit credited.

The LG washer OE error code is a clock, not a part. The board starts a timer with the drain command and posts OE when the water level sensor still reads water at the end, 13 minutes on a top-load. The water stayed; the 15-second spin-only test below says why.
LG prints the OE error on the front-load WM series, the TurboDrum top-load WT series and the WashTower. On all three it means the washer could not drain the water it used; only the access differs, and the three lines above say where.
LG’s guides call OE a water outlet error and lean on one test, the spin-only cycle: a pump that hums inside 15 seconds is alive, so the blockage sits downstream. Spark reads this code on LG washer calls across San Diego County; below is what the stopwatch and the meter show.

Column three is LG’s wording; column four is the reading Spark takes before naming a part.
| Display / platform | Where the drain parts live | What LG means by it | What Spark measures |
|---|---|---|---|
| OE — LG front-load washer, WM series (Direct Drive) | Pump and filter behind the lower-left service panel. | Unable to drain the water used during the wash cycle: kinked hose or clogged pump filter. | Hum within 15 seconds of spin-only, pump voltage, winding resistance, filter debris. |
| OE — top-load WT (TurboDrum) | Pump under the outer tub; LG fits no user filter on top-loads. | An issue draining water; OE posts after 13 minutes without a drain. | Pump output with a full tub, hose route, standpipe height and depth. |
| OE — WashTower (WKEX / WKGX) | Washer is the bottom deck; access cover on the lower front. | “Water Outlet Error”: clogged pump filter, pressed, kinked or frozen hose. | Same pump tests through the lower cover, plus 10 cm of rear clearance. |
| OE with the drum already empty | Pressure (water level) sensor and its air hose, top of the cabinet. | The control still believes water is present; the timer expires on an empty tub. | Air hose for trapped water, sensor signal, then the board’s pump output. |
Start a spin-only cycle (HIGH on a front-load) with a timer running. Each stage says what should happen and the check if it does not.
The board confirms the door or lid lock, then powers the pump; a jump to dE is a lock problem, not a drain problem.
LG’s own test: the pump should hum, and water should start moving, inside the first 15 seconds. Silence means no power at the pump or an open winding (a broken coil inside the pump motor): a repair, not a cleaning.
The level should be visibly dropping within the first minute or two; a hum with a slow drop points at the filter. WM: unplug, open the lower-left panel, drain the residual water, brush the filter. WT: no filter door, go to the hose step.
Filter clean? Pull the washer out: a kink against the wall, a loop above LG’s 96-inch limit, a hose jammed deep in the standpipe. A WT without spin-only can be paused; after 8 minutes it shows DR and force-drains.
LG’s top-load guide puts the time-out at 13 minutes. Tub empty, do the documented reset: power off, unplug, hold Start/Pause 5 seconds with no power, restore power, restart. OE back in the next cycle is a pump, sensor or board fault.
Five outcomes, five prices. Filter and hose rows cost the visit only; the three part rows are the washing machine repair table’s own numbers, parts and labor.
| Where the drain phase stopped | What we find and fix | Parts + labor |
|---|---|---|
| 0:00 — silent, no voltage at the pump | Main control board, ordered to the model tag, 1–2 business days. | $280 – $520 |
| 0:00–0:15 — voltage present, no hum or no flow | Drain pump, 4681EA2001T on many WM and WT models, normally van stock. | $180 – $320 |
| 0:15–2:00 — hum, water falling slowly | Pump filter packed with lint, coins or a hair tie: cleared, impeller freed, drain tested. | Covered by the service call. |
| 2:00–8:00 — filter clean, tub still full | Drain hose kinked, above the 96-inch limit or too deep in the standpipe: re-routed, bracket within 4 inches of the end. | Covered by the service call. |
| 13:00 — OE over a dry drum | Waterlogged air hose cleared; drifted pressure sensor replaced and checked against a measured fill. | $160 – $300 (our inlet-valve row) |
All five rows carry the 90-day parts and labor warranty. A house drain that backs up once the hose is lifted free is a plumber’s job; we bill the service call only.
Past the filter and the hose, an OE call is three readings and a part.
BHGS registration #C 62399 (California Bureau of Household Goods and Services) and insured. LG Direct Drive washers are on the Spring Valley dispatch board every week; part and labor carry a 90-day warranty.
Pump voltage during a drain command, winding resistance (the pump motor’s coil, read with a meter) and the pressure sensor’s output on an empty tub separate a pump from an air hose from a board.
LG’s timer believes the water level sensor, not the tub. Water trapped in the sensor’s thin air hose posts OE over an empty drum, so we clear the hose and read the sensor before naming a pump.
Five readings LG’s help page cannot take for you; any one means a technician, not another cycle. Other brands: the washer won’t drain guide.
One line per code; the last three rows cover the LG dishwasher, which posts OE too.
| Code | Appliance | What it means and the one check to make |
|---|---|---|
| IE | LG washer | Inlet error, no water arriving: open both taps, check the inlet hoses for a kink. |
| UE | LG washer | Drum unbalanced after redistribution: remove one heavy item, level the feet. |
| LE | LG washer | Drum rotation fault. Unplug 5 minutes; look for a coin between the tubs. |
| dE / dE1 / dE2 / dE4 | LG washer | Door open or lock unconfirmed. Close firmly; a persistent dE2 is the lock switch. |
| FE | LG washer | Too much water, or suds fooling the sensor: HE detergent at the printed dose. |
| PE | LG washer | Water level sensor cannot measure the level; PE paired with OE is the sensor circuit we test first. |
| OE | LG dishwasher | The LG dishwasher OE error code: water is not draining. Check 1: lift out the cylinder filter, clear food debris, run an empty cycle. |
| OE (new install) | LG dishwasher | Check 2: straighten the corrugated hose under the sink; a new disposal needs its knockout plug removed. |
| OE (still there) | LG dishwasher | Check 3: clear the air gap, then CANCEL & DRAIN. If OE survives all three, the drain pump needs testing. |
LG dishwasher OE that outlives those three checks is the same pump-or-board call, priced on our dishwasher repair page; other washer symptoms are on the common washer problems guide.
Washer and dishwasher OE sit on the same route: 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. every day, out of Spring Valley, across San Diego County. Call before noon for a same-day look. The $90 residential visit buys the readings above and is credited once you approve the repair.
An LG dishwasher OE error gets the same stopwatch: filter, hose and air gap first, then the pump. LE, dE and bearing prices are on LG washer repair in San Diego; the LG appliance repair parent covers the rest.

Our dishwasher was on life support and these guys brought it back to new. See photos. They cleaned both tubs and replaced the pump. Works like new. Remember to use the dishwasher cleaner they recommend.
Silent at 0:00, humming at 0:15 with nothing falling, or OE over a dry drum at 13:00? Tell dispatch which, and the quote is a pump, a sensor or a board before anyone drives. No stopwatch? Say what the display showed and when.
OE is LG’s drain time-out: the pump was told to empty the tub and the water level sensor still saw water when the allowed time ended, 13 minutes on a top-load. It says the water did not leave, not which part failed.
Because the drain phase stops at the same second each time. Silent pump at the drain command: wiring or board. Hum, no water moving: pump. Water falling slowly: filter. Filter clean, tub full: hose or standpipe. OE over an empty drum: level sensor or air hose.
On a WT without spin-only, start any cycle and press pause; after 8 minutes the control shows DR and runs the pump itself. On a front-load, the small hose behind the lower-left panel drains the tub by gravity first.
The filter and the hose, yes; the pump, no. LG’s own page stops at “the unit requires a repair service” once the pump is silent on spin-only, and so do we. OE over an empty drum is a meter job too.
Yes, one sequence for every LG washer: power off, unplug or switch off the breaker, hold Start/Pause 5 seconds with no power, restore power, start a fresh cycle. Reset only with the tub empty; a code back in the next cycle is a fault, not a glitch.
$180 to $320 on the WM and WT platforms, with the $90 service call credited against it. Readings that point at the main control board instead run $280 to $520; a pressure sensor job is $160 to $300.
The fault is in the reporting. The pressure sensor reads the level through a thin air hose; trapped water or a drifted sensor tells the board the tub is still full. We clear the hose and check the sensor.
On a WashTower, yes: LG calls it a water outlet error, same filter and hose causes. An LG dishwasher OE error also means water is not draining; LG’s order is filter, hose, air gap, then the disposal knockout plug on a new install.
