LG cools differently from a conventional fridge, and LG refrigerator repair in San Diego has to start there. The Inverter Linear Compressor has no crankshaft. A piston rides on a spring and is driven back and forth by a single winding, and the main control board (PCB) varies the stroke instead of switching a motor on and off. One winding to measure, no start relay, no start capacitor. Behind it sit the parts that fail far more often: the evaporator fan (Er FF), the condenser fan (Er CF), and a defrost heater that never finishes (Er dH) or its sensor (Er dS). Add the fresh-food damper and the in-door ice maker on InstaView and Craft Ice models. We pull the stored code, run LG’s test mode and meter the suspect part before anything goes on the quote.
EPA 608 certified sealed-system work is done in-house, so when an LG does need its compressor, the recovery, evacuation and weighed-in charge happen in your kitchen, not at a subcontractor. Technicians dispatch from 2637 Summitview Ln in Spring Valley and cover French-door Linear Compressor units, InstaView Door-in-Door and Craft Ice models, four-door units, side-by-sides and the older bottom-freezer LFX line, Carlsbad and Escondido down to the South Bay. Stocked-part jobs are finished on the spot; ordered parts take 1–2 business days. Dial (619) 330-5105 or book online.

An LG refrigerator repair that starts with “it’s probably the compressor” usually costs twice what it should. A Spark visit runs the other way:
The order is fixed: evaporator fan, damper, defrost circuit, thermistors, and only then the compressor winding. Most warm-fridge calls end at a fan motor or a defrost sensor; the compressor is the last part we condemn, not the first guess.
A fridge that has stopped cooling is flagged urgent, and a call before noon gets a same-day slot. Before we arrive: keep both doors shut (the freezer holds cold far longer than the fresh-food side), leave the Er code on the display, and do not move the food to a hot garage.
Spark is registered with the California BHGS (#C 62399) and insured, and EPA 608 certified sealed-system work is done in-house: Linear Compressor swaps, refrigerant recovery, evacuation and recharge, all at your fridge.
Say the fan is the culprit and the quote reads $310. You paid $90 at the door, so $220 is the balance once it spins; decline, and the door payment ends it. That $220 covers motor and labor for 90 days; the same fault inside the window means a free second trip.
Fan motors (EAU64824402, EAU61524007), 6615JB2005R defrost sensors, AJU72992601 inlet valves and ice maker kits ride on the van because they fit whole series. A door gasket is sized to the door and the model, so we read your tag and order the exact one; compressors, main boards and InstaView door parts are ordered the same way.
InstaView glass, the Craft Ice sphere maker, in-door ice makers and the Door-in-Door bin each add a harness, heater and fan of their own. We service them without pulling the door apart.
Cold air is made in the freezer and pushed to the fresh-food side by the evaporator fan through a motorized damper. A dead fan (Er FF), a damper stuck shut, or a coil frozen solid by a failed defrost all look the same from the front. Rear panel off, coil and fan checked.
Total loss of cooling points at the compressor circuit: the main PCB is not driving it, the winding has opened, or it runs but no longer pumps. Winding, drive output and the temperature split across the sealed system are read first.
LG runs the defrost heater until the 6615JB2005R sensor says the coil is clear. A heater reading open, a sensor reading wrong, or a blown thermal fuse in the same harness leaves frost on the back wall and the fridge side warming. Each is measured; only the failed one is replaced.
In-door ice makers on InstaView and Door-in-Door models fail from a frozen fill tube, a dead ice-maker fan (Er IF), an inlet valve that no longer opens, or a worn ejector module. Craft Ice is slow by design; stopped completely is a module or fill problem.
A defrost drain plugged with ice, a cracked drain pan, a split fill tube, or a weeping inlet valve. We trace the water to its source, clear the drain with warm water and check the pan and fill tube on the same visit. Until then, a towel under the crisper beats chipping at the ice.
Linear Compressors are near silent, so new noise is usually a condenser fan blade hitting debris, an evaporator fan with dry bearings, or a loose compressor mount. Condenser fan trouble also trips Er CF.
A torn or flattened French-door gasket means condensation at the seam, a compressor that never cycles off and frost in the freezer. We fit the OEM gasket and re-level the cabinet. Fog inside the InstaView glass is a door-panel problem, not a cooling fault, and the panel is quoted on its own line.
Er CO is a communication fault between the display and the main PCB — a connector, a harness or the board. LG ThinQ app drop-outs are usually network or firmware and are ruled out first.
LG shows refrigerator faults as “Er” plus two characters. Column two is LG’s definition; column three is what must agree with it before a part is quoted.
| Code | What LG means by it | What Spark checks |
|---|---|---|
| Er FF | Freezer (evaporator) fan — no feedback signal from the fan motor. | DC supply, feedback wire, blade frozen into the coil, motor EAU64824402 / EAU61524007 on the bench. |
| Er rF | Refrigerator-side fan fault. | Fresh-food fan supply and feedback, damper position, ice on the housing. |
| Er CF | Condenser fan — no feedback from the fan. | Condenser fan motor, blade clearance, dust-packed condenser. |
| Er IF / Er 1F | Ice-maker fan failure. | Fan in the ice compartment, frost on it, harness through the door hinge. |
| Er dH | Defrost did not complete in the allowed time. | Defrost heater continuity, thermal fuse, 6615JB2005R sensor, heater relay output on the PCB. |
| Er dS | Defrost sensor fault — open or shorted. | Sensor resistance against the ice-water reference, harness and connector. |
| Er FS / Er rS | Freezer or refrigerator temperature sensor open or shorted. | Thermistor resistance (about 16 kΩ at 32 °F), connector pins. |
| Er CO | Communication error between the main PCB and the display. | Display harness, connector seating, board power. |
| Er It | Ice-maker motor did not complete its cycle. | Ice maker assembly AEQ73110210 or the in-door kit, ejector, fill tube. |
Six checks, in the order that separates a $220 fan from a $550–900 compressor.
Er code first, then LG’s test mode, which runs compressor, fans, damper and defrost heater on command. The question is not whether a load runs but what the board believes while it does: a fan spinning on command that still logged Er FF is a feedback-line or PCB fault, not a motor.
LG fans are low-voltage DC brushless motors with a feedback wire. We confirm the supply from the PCB, then the feedback signal: supply but no feedback means a new motor, no supply means the board.
Rear panel off. The heater is checked for continuity against your model’s spec, the thermal fuse for an open, and the 6615JB2005R sensor for an in-spec resistance. A coil frozen solid is thawed before the fan is judged.
Each LG sensor is a thermistor that should read roughly 16 kΩ at 32 °F. We drop the suspect sensor in ice water and read it directly; out of range, it is replaced on the spot.
The compressor is a single winding read across its two live pins: single-digit ohms is healthy, an OL (open) reading is a failed winding, and any reading from a pin to the shell is a ground fault. Then the PCB drive signal and the sealed-system temperature split.
Compressor running, winding fine, evaporator still never cold: that is the sealed system — a restriction, a leak or a compressor that no longer pumps. It is quoted as one line, and we tell you straight if the fridge is not worth it.
Parts and labor together for the LG-specific jobs we price most often; the service call you paid at the door is credited inside each figure, not added on top. Generic rows — condenser fan, inlet valve, door gasket — are on the refrigerator repair page.
| Linear Compressor TCA38151706 + Update Kit CJT30000002, Filter-Drier, Evacuate & Recharge | $550 – $900 |
| Inverter Drive / Main PCB (Linear Compressor models) | $280 – $520 |
| Defrost Heater + 6615JB2005R Sensor Harness (Er dH / Er dS) | $200 – $380 |
| Evaporator Fan Motor EAU64824402 / EAU61524007 (Er FF) | $220 – $400 |
| Craft Ice Sphere Maker Module (LRMVS / LRFVS) | $280 – $420 |
| In-Door Ice Maker Kit or Bottom-Freezer Ice Maker AEQ73110210 | $220 – $400 |
| InstaView Door Panel / Door-in-Door Assembly | $420 – $680 |
On models with the Inverter Linear Compressor, LG covers the compressor part for ten years — we check your build date, and if the part is still covered the quote drops to labor and refrigerant. The $90 you paid at the door is already credited inside each figure, and every row carries 90 days on the part and the labor.
The Linear Compressor and the defrost circuit are shared across the range. What changes is what sits in the doors and how we get to it:
LRMVS3006S, LRFVS3006S and the InstaView family with knock-twice glass, the Door-in-Door bin and the Craft Ice sphere maker. Common jobs: in-door ice maker and ice fan (Er IF), Craft Ice module, InstaView panel fog.
LFXS26973S, LFXS30726S, LMXS30776S and the LFX / LMX series: three- and four-door units. Common jobs: evaporator fan, damper, defrost heater and sensor, inlet valve, Linear Compressor and sealed-system work.
LSXS side-by-sides with the in-door dispenser, LDCS bottom-freezer and LTCS top-freezer units. Common jobs: condenser fan (Er CF), dispenser solenoid, gaskets, thermistors, defrost circuit.
Model → what rides out on the van.
LMXS30776S, LMXC23746S → fan EAU64824402, valve AJU72992601.
LFXS30726S → fan EAU61524007, valve AJU72992601.
LFXS26973S and the rest of the LFX / LMX line → AJU72992601 valve, 6615JB2005R defrost sensor.
LRMVS3006S, LRFVS3006S (InstaView, Craft Ice) → in-door ice maker and ice fan (Er IF), Craft Ice module.
LDCS bottom-freezer → ice maker (AEQ73110210 family), defrost circuit.

A typical weekday LG call, from the first ring to the last meter reading:
Dispatch asks for the model (tag inside the fresh-food door) and the Er code. 9:10 is inside the morning window, so the visit is today; a 3 PM caller would hear tomorrow morning, and evening or weekend slots exist for the asking. Two-hour arrival window by text.
LG’s test mode forces the compressor, fans, damper and defrost heater one at a time; the meter goes on whatever misbehaved, and you watch the readings.
Parts and labor written out, service call already credited. Sealed-system jobs are one line, and nothing is ordered or opened further until you say yes.
Van-stock parts go in and the fridge is pulling down before we leave. A compressor, board, Craft Ice module or InstaView panel is ordered to your model and fitted on a return visit; the warranty clock starts the day the part goes in.
The recovery machine, vacuum pump and charging scale ride on the same van as the fan motors and sensors, so an LG call in Poway, Escondido or Carlsbad is never a “come back with the equipment” visit. One dispatch, every LG fridge in the county:
LG refrigerator repair in Carlsbad, Poway or Escondido leaves the same Spring Valley yard as the rest of the county. Say the fridge is fully warm and the call is flagged urgent; dispatch tells you plainly whether that means today or tomorrow morning.

Fully warm, the food has about four hours: call (619) 330-5105, keep both doors shut, and the van rolls with the fan, sensor and valve stock behind most warm-fridge fixes. The $90 is credited to the repair, and the 90-day parts and labor warranty covers whatever we fit.
The $90 service call buys the trip, the Er code read, LG test mode run on the compressor, fans, damper and defrost heater, and a written quote with the call already credited. After that, most LG fridge repairs in San Diego land between $180 and $520 in parts and labor, a fan motor at the low end and a main board at the top; Linear Compressor work runs $550 to $900. Van-stock parts finish in about 60 to 90 minutes, compressors and boards on a return visit, and the 90-day parts and labor warranty covers both.
On an LG the fresh-food side only gets the cold air the evaporator fan pushes through the damper. The three usual causes: a failed evaporator fan, a damper stuck closed, or a coil frozen solid because the defrost heater or sensor quit. All three are checked behind the freezer back panel.
Er dH means the defrost cycle did not finish in the time LG allows. The heater may be open, the thermal fuse in the same harness may have blown, or the defrost sensor may be reading wrong. Each is measured with a meter and only the failed part is replaced, usually from van stock.
The Linear Compressor is one winding read across its two live pins. Single-digit ohms is normal, an open reading is a failed winding, and any pin-to-shell reading is a ground fault. The PCB drive signal and the sealed system are checked before the compressor is condemned.
Spark. EPA 608 certified sealed-system work is done in-house: compressor replacement, filter-drier, evacuation and recharge on LG refrigerators happen in your home, by the technician who diagnosed the fault. Nothing is handed off.
The compressor, a new filter-drier, evacuation and a weighed-in refrigerant charge, in one return visit. The TCA38151706 compressor and its update kit usually arrive one to two business days after the diagnosis; keep the freezer door closed in the meantime, since it holds cold longer than the fresh-food side.
Er IF means the fan in the ice compartment is not reporting back to the main board. On Door-in-Door and InstaView models that fan lives in the door, so its wires run through the hinge harness, and the harness is checked first: a chafed wire there looks exactly like a dead fan. Fan and harness repairs are done on the first visit.
Usually the defrost circuit. When the coil behind the freezer panel ices over, the blade freezes into it, the fan stalls and the board logs Er FF. On an LG refrigerator repair we thaw the coil and test the defrost heater, thermal fuse and 6615JB2005R sensor before the fan is judged, then replace the part that let the ice build. Whoever fitted the fan, the order does not change.
